Marian Prayers

We Fly Unto Thy Patronage
Sub Tuum Prayer

Devotion to the Blessed Virgin began with the Archangel Gabriel's greeting "Hail, full of grace" at the Annunciation and has continued throughout the Church's history. Prayers addressed to Mary do not imply any divinity on her part (which would be the sin of superstition) but rather seek to take advantage of her role as the ultimate intercessor with her Son which began with her 'intercession' at the Wedding Feast of Cana. Just as we offer prayers to God through His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, so we offer our prayers to Jesus through Mary so that she may add her superabundant grace to them, making them more effective and acceptable to God.

Each prayer is presented with the traditional language for the prayers, but bear in mind that there are often varied versions (wordings) of some prayers from various sources. A history of each prayer/devotion is included. This listing of prayers is not designed to be all inclusive, but rather features the most popular Marian prayers.
