Litany of Loreto
A litany is a prayer composed of alternating statements and supplications. The Litany of Loreto, honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary, is named for the town in Italy where the Holy Family's house is enclosed in a church and where the devotion began. It was officially approved in 1587 by Pope Sixtus V and remains the only litany of the Virgin for public use.
