Blue Scapular of the Immaculate Conception
Obligations
1. Traditional practices called for saying the 'Our Father', 'Hail Mary' and 'Glory Be' six times each day honoring the Trinity and the Immaculate Conception
2. Wear the Scapular and show special devotion towards Mary and the Mystery of the Immaculate Conception
3. Receive Sacraments frequently (particularly on feasts and solemnities of the Virgin Mary
4. Pray for the sick and dying, the conversion of sinners, God's mercy for the world, and for the souls suffering in
Purgatory (especially deceased members of the Confraternity)
5. Live a life of chastity according to one's state in life (marriage, single, religious)
Indulgences
All indulgences are plenary* under the usual conditions.
1. Day of investiture with the Scapular
2. February 2: Feast of the Presentation (Candlemas)
3. Easter Sunday
4. Feast of the Ascension (forty days after Easter)
5. August 7: Feast of St. Cajetan, founder of the Theatines
6. August 15: Feast of the Assumption
7. December 8: Feast of the Immaculate Conception
8. At the moment of death
9. Note: the 433 daily plenary indulgences from Rome, Portiuncula, Jerusalem
and Galicia for the Blue Scapular referred to by St. Alphonsus Liquori are no longer valid according to the Apostolic Penitentiary in a letter, 2002.
10. Kissing the scapular (or Blue Scapular Medal) gains a partial indulgence each time
11. Confraternity members also benefit from Masses offered on their behalf by the Marians of the Immaculate Conception
* Plenary indulgences must meet the usual conditions of Confession, Communion, freedom from attachment to sin, and prayer for the Pope's intentions.
