Marian Apparitions: Banneaux
Banneaux, Belgium; 1933
Witness
Mariette Beco and
Summary
On January 15, 1933, Mariette Beco saw a lady 'made of light' with a Rosary on her right
arm outside of her home around 7pm in the evening. The lady bid her come out, but her mother only saw a white form and fearfully made her daughter remain inside. On the evening of the 18th she was outside and
saw the Virgin descend from the sky speaking, briefly to her and having Mariette drink from a spring near a ditch. On six additional evenings the Virgin returned to the same place where Mariette was praying. She was told that Mary was the 'Virgin of the Poor' and announced that the
spring was for healing.
As in nearby Beauraing, the Virgin spoke few words on the but emphasized the need to pray 'much'. The emphasis on Mary's role in the relief of suffering was unique to Banneaux. The last of the eight apparitions took place on
March 2 when Mary again urged Mariette to 'pray much'.
Messages/Prophecies
"I am the Virgin of the poor."
"This spring is reserved for all the nations - to relieve the sick." (Jan. 19)
"Believe in me, I will believe in you. Pray much. Au Revoir." (Feb. 15)
The small chapel built in the Beco's garden has drawn millions of pilgrims. The 'small' spring yields 2,000 gallons of water a day with many reports of miraculous healings.
