TO DEFEND THE FAITH
In 1998, Pope John Paul II authored Ad Tuendam Fidem to enforce the "common adherence of Christ’s faithful under the guidance of the sacred Magisterium" in regards to Church teachings.
Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, prefect of the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, released a commentary letter outlining specific examples. This is what is outlined below with additional specifics (references to the 1994 Catechism have been added). This listing is
not exhaustive but highlights major examples in each section. [Numbers] refer to references to Denzinger's Echridion Symbolorum, an organized collection of Church doctrine/teachings.
Detecting heretical or hostile theology is often more difficult than liturgical abuses, but the references below are a first step in the process. What is taught in Christian Education and from during the homily is just as important as what is 'done' in liturgy.
