THE BIBLE AND HOMOSEXUALITY

Here are the Scriptures relating to homosexuality in the Bible. The blue text is commentary designed to present a complete understanding of the Scripture in correct context, addressing the arguments of homosexual apologists in modern 'theology.' The Bible translation is the New International Version (NIV).
Genesis 19:4,5

Before they <the angels and Lot's family> had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom - both young and old - surrounded the house. They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so we can have sex with them."

Homosexuals argue that the sin of Sodom was not homosexuality but 'inhospitality.' The conclusion drawn is that the crowd's 'rudeness' to the angelic visitors was a more grievous sin than homosexual rape! Since the Old Testament laws do not mandate 'death' for inhospitality, it is logical to assume that homosexuality was the sin highlighted in this incident and which served to illustrate the wicked nature of the soon-to-be-destroyed city.

Leviticus 18:22

"Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable."

Homosexuals argue that this passage applies only to Priests, but Leviticus 19:2 makes it clear the laws are for the 'entire assembly of Israel.' The practices are not related to ceremony or worship, but rather sexual practices of all Israelites.

Leviticus 20:13

"If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."

The death penalty for homosexuality reveals the severe negative impact the practice has on society and its gravity in God's sight. Death is a punishment for a chosen behavior, not an 'inborn' trait or orientation.

Judges 19:22

While they <traveler and host> were enjoying themselves, some of the wicked men of the city surrounded the house. Pounding on the door, they shouted to the old man who owned the house, "Bring out the man who came to your house so we can have sex with him."

This verse, like the account of Sodom, is said by homosexual apologists to be an an example of 'inhospitality' rather than homosexual depravity.

Matthew 10:14,15

If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town. I tell you the truth, it will more favorable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgement than for that town.

Matthew 11:23,24

...If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgement than for you.

Both of these passages refer to the judgement on a person or town that rejects the Gospel and the accompanying miracles presented by the Disciples. Sodom is held up as an example of extreme wickedness that never had the opportunity to hear the Gospel and see the power of God. The verses together dispel allegations made by homosexual apologists that the 'crime' of Sodom was inhospitality...in the context of Jesus' words, the crime referred to in the passages is rejecting the message and messenger of God.

Romans 1:26,27

Because of this <idolatry>, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men abandoned natural* relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

The homosexual position on these verses is that it refers to ceremonial acts in false worship. However, the phrase 'because of this' makes it clear that the 'lust' and 'relations' were not involved in the actual worship, but were the depraved resulting action of false worship and separation from God. Paul declares homosexual behavior to be unnatural and perverted.

*Natural (Greek: phusikos) - inborn, according to nature.

1 Corinthians 6:9

Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual* offenders...

If there is any doubt about the 'ceremonial' argument, this passage clearly separates the roles of the male shrine prostitute and the consenting, practicing homosexual individual. Both are condemned.

*homosexual offenders, translated in the King James Version 'abusers of themselves with mankind.' Mankind (Greek: aresenokoites) specifies the male sex.

1 Timothy 1:10

...for adulterers and perverts, for slave traders and liars and perjurers, and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine...

The word adulterer implies unfaithfulness within marriage, while pervert would imply unnatural sexual relationships which Paul defined in Romans.

2 Peter 2:6,7

...if He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; and if He rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy* lives of lawless men...

This passage further defines the sin of Sodom as 'filthy' not inhospitable. Lack of hospitality is never referred to as a capital offense anywhere in Scripture.

* Filthy (Greek: aselgeia) - may also be translated licentious or wantonness, both implying unrestrained sexual activities.

Jude 7

In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.

Another clear definition of the sin of Sodom: homosexual perversion.

WHILE THE BIBLE CLEARLY CONDEMNS HOMOSEXUALITY, THE GREATEST CONDEMNATION OF THE PRACTICE IS FOUND IN WHAT IS NOT WRITTEN: THERE IS NO EXAMPLE IN EITHER OLD OR NEW TESTAMENT OF AN ACCEPTABLE
