The Lord's Prayer
1. Why is God called 'our Father'?
Because he is the Father of all Christians (made so by Baptism) and the Father of all mankind who he made, loves and preserves.
2. Why do we say, 'our' and not 'my' Father?
We are to pray not for ourselves only, but with our brethren for others.
3. What does 'hallowed be thy name' imply?
That God may be known, loved, and served by all of His creatures.
4. What is meant by 'thy kingdom come'?
That God may come and reign in the hearts of all by His grace in this world, and bring us all to his heavenly kingdom.
5. What is meant by 'thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven'?
That God may enable us to do his will in all things as the Blessed do in heaven.
6. What does 'give us this day our daily bread' imply?
That God may give us daily all that is necessary for soul and body.
7. What does 'forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us' mean?
That God will forgive our sins in the same way as we forgive others' sins against us.
