Green: hope (Ordinary time after Epiphany, Pentecost)

Violet/Purple:  penance and humility (Advent, Lent, Vigils, Ember Days)

Rose:  joy in the midst of penance (Gaudete and Laetare Sundays)

Black:  mourning (Good Friday, All Souls, requiems)

Gold: purity and royalty (replaces green, red or white)  

Advent: 4 weeks preparing for the 'coming' of Christmas/Christ (v)

Christmas: the Nativity;  'Christmastide' thru Septuagesima (w)

Ephiphany: coming of the Magi (January 6-13) (w)

Lent: Ash Wednesday-Holy Saturday time of penance (v)

Easter: Resurrection (Paschal Time 8 weeks from Easter Sunday) (w)

Pentecost: descent of the Holy Spirit (7th Sunday after Easter) (r)

Ordinary Time:  represents the time until the Last Judgement (g)
