Indulgences
1. What is an Indulgence?
A remission, granted by the Church, of the temporal punishment due to sin after the guilt of the sin itself has been forgiven.
2. What is source of indulgences? The superabundant (more than necessary) satisfaction gained but unused by the Blessed Virgin Mary and other saints.
3. What types of indulgences are there?
~ Plenary: remits all temporal punishment due
~ Partial: remits part of the temporal punishment
4. How do we gain the indulgence?
~ Be in a state of grace
~ Free from the attachment to sin
~ Desire to gain the indulgence itself
~ Perform the works required by the Church
(Plenary also requires Confession, Communion and prayer for the Pope)
5. List the sins against the Holy Spirit. (PED-FOR)
~ Presumption: believing we can be saved without God, or He will save without our
~ Envy: resenting other's good fortune)
~ Despair: refusing to trust in God
~ Final refusal to repent
~ Obstinacy: stubborness
~ Resisting what you know to be true
