Commandments Eight, Nine and Ten
'Thou shalt not bear false witness'
1. What does this Commandment forbid?
~ False testimony and lies
~ Rash judgment
~ Calumny (slander or false statements)
~ Detraction (needlessly revealing faults)
~ Gossip and harmful speech in general
2. If you have injured someone by words, what must you do?
Restore his good name as far as possible.
'Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife'
3. What is forbidden?
Willful consent to impure thoughts and desires, and pleasures of the flesh.
4. What sins commonly lead to the breaking of the sixth and ninth Commandments?
~ Gluttony and intemperance
~ Idleness and bad company
~ Neglect of prayer
5. Are all unchaste or impure thoughts sinful?
Yes, if they are 'willful' (enjoyed and not resisted).
'Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's goods'
6. What does this Commandment forbid?
All envious and covetous thoughts and desires for what belongs to our neighbor.
