Commandment One
"Thou shalt not have strange gods before me. Thou shalt not make to thyself any graven thing..."
1. What are we commanded to do by the first Commandment?
To worship the one, true, and living God, by Faith, Hope, Charity, and Religion.
2. What does faith oblige us to do?
~ Learn what God has revealed (i.e. catechism)
~ Believe firmly in God's revelation
~ Profess our faith openly when necessary
3. What are the sins against Faith?
~ All false religions
~ Willful doubt, disbelief, or denial of any article of Faith
~ Deliberate ignorance of the doctrines of the Church
4. How do we expose ourselves to the danger of losing our Faith?
~ Neglecting our spiritual duties
~ Reading bad books
~ Attending non-Catholic events.
5. What are the sins against Hope?
~ Despair: deliberately refusing to trust in God
~ Presumption: thinking that we can be saved without God, or God can save us without our effort.
