Commandment One and Images
1. What are the chief sins against Religion?
~ Idolatry: worship of false gods or idols
~ Superstition: giving to any creature the honor which belongs to God alone
2. Is the making of images forbidden?
Not unless they are to honored as a god.
3. What else does this Commandment forbid?
~ Spiritualism: dealing with Satan (i.e. medium)
~ Sacrilege: irreverence or mistreatment of sacred persons, places or things
~ Simony: buying or selling sacred things (i.e. indulgences, church offices)
4. What kind of honor or worship should we give to the Angels and Saints?
Honor and devotion as the servants and special friends of God, but not divine worship.
5. What honor should we give to relics, crucifixes, and holy pictures?
A relative honor, since they relate to and are memorials of Christ and his Saints.
6. Do we pray to relics and images?
No, we pray to the holy person to whom they are related or represent.
7. How do we honor saints of the Church?
Pray to them, imitate their lives and honor their images and relics.
