The Catholic Church is the union of all the faithful under one Head, Jesus Christ, born on Pentecost.
2. What is the Church empowered to do?
To teach, sanctify and rule.
3. Does the Church have a visible Head on earth?
Yes, the Bishop of Rome, who is the Vicar of Christ (Pope or 'father').
4. Why is the Pope the Head of the Church?
He is the successor of St. Peter, whom Christ appointed as the first Pope.
5. How do you know that Christ appointed St. Peter to be the Head of the Church?
Because Christ called Peter the ‘rock’ on which He would build His Church and gave him the keys, the symbol of authority (Matt. 16:18+).
6. Is the Pope the Spiritual Father, teacher and Shepherd of all Christians?
Yes, carrying out the command of Peter to 'Feed my lambs, feed my sheep.'
7. What does it mean to say that the Pope is infallible?
The Pope cannot err when, as Shepherd and Teacher of all Christians, he defines a doctrine concerning faith or morals, to be held by the whole Church.
